I Can Receive but Can’t Send Email From my Mobile Phone
I can’t send email from my Windows Mobile Pocket PC. Since the day I bought it, I could not send an email out and having a Windows Mobile Pocket PC without the ability to send email is not really 100% mobile. I could receive email just fine, but I could not send or reply to email.
I use Gmail to check all my email accounts and so I setup up my Windows Mobile Phone to work with my Gmail account. I followed the directions to the letter on how to setup Gmail for mobile using IMAP. In addition, I have set up Gmail this way on mobile phones belonging to clients and I have never had a problem, but I just could not get my mobile phone to send email!
I tried bookmarking m.google.com/mail on my phone’s Internet browser so that I could just send email from the actual Gmail for mobile website, but that was taking too long to load. I also tried downloading the Google Mobile App which, although very cool and handy, still did not load the email App quick enough. Finally, I got angry and set out to find the solution.
Well…I found it! When I saw how easy it was to fix, I was relieved but also a little upset that Microsoft doesn’t say a whole lot about this problem or its solution. This thing should be delivered as an Active Sync update, emailed to Windows Mobile owners as a hotfix, delivered door to door by a Microsoft employee (just kidding) and whatever other means of notifying users that this problem exists because people can lose a lot of time trying to fix a small problem like this which ends up irritating people against Microsoft!
Now that I have vented, here’s the solution:
1.) Email this link to yourself: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=d9d71b2e-d2dd-44f2-86e5-1e53aad7fb7a&displaylang=en
2.)Check your email from your Pocket PC email application and click the link so you visit the above URL from your phone’s browser.
3.) Click the link on the page you land on that says “From your Mobile Device”.
4.) Select to open the CAB file that it will download.
5.) When finished installing, start sending emails! Yep, that’s all!
A word of caution, you might want to delete any old emails that you tried to send before which are still sitting in your Outbox folder. Once this file is installed it will send all pending emails in the outbox folder.
