Learn To Use Your Computer Then Profit From It!

Useful shortcuts in Windows XP

I recently have been approached by several people asking for quick ways to perform regular tasks in Windows. Therefore, I decided to put a list together that, would help people perform these tasks quickly. The best way to memorize these is to simply pick your favorites and use them a few times. After repeating the keystrokes a few times, it will become second nature and you’ll be maneuvering around Windows quicker than anyone…Repetition is the key to learning!

E
Windows Key and E = Windows Explorer - A quick way to get to all of your files.

CTRL key and X = Cut - highlight your text and perform this combination. You will delete the highlighted text from the screen and place it on the clipboard.
Control Key

C

CTRL key + C = Copy, highlight text (just as in Cut) and perform this combination to copy the highlighted text onto the clipboard without deleting it.
Control Key

CTRL key and V = Paste, when you perform this combination, you will place whatever you copied onto the clipboard into the location where your cursor is.
Control Key

CTRL key + TAB key = This combination functions when you are using tabs. For example, in Internet Explorer 7, you have the ability to open several web pages within the same browser by using tabs. When you have more than one page open, press CTRL and TAB and you will cycle through all the open tabs without having to click them.

+

Instead of clicking the start button and RUN when you want to run a program, just click on the Windows Key and R

+
L

If you like to lock your computer when you get up for security reasons or just to make sure nobody messes with what you were working with, you usually have to press ctrl, alt, del and click Lock Computer. Instead, just press the Windows key and L.

+
D
This one is very useful, try it now. When you have several things open and you have to get to your desktop, just press the Windows Key and D. Everything will minimize. Now press it again, everything will be maximized again.
Control Key

+
A

This will select everything in whatever area you are in. Try it now. You can combine this with CTRL C to copy what you select with CTRL A.
Control Key

+
Z

This will undo your last action. It’s the equivalent but faster than clicking on Edit and Undo.
